Went down a TAG Heuer x Senna rabbit hole today and I think I’ve stumbled on something weird that I can’t find any solid info on. Has anyone seen early-90s S/el pieces with a Senna caseback but totally standard “Professional” dials and bezels (no helmet, no red accents, no Senna script anywhere else)?
Here’s what set me off:
- S/el quartz chrono with the classic S-link bracelet and “Professional” dial (no Senna cues) but the caseback had an Ayrton Senna signature and helmet motif.

- The caseback engraving looked laser-etched and shallow, not deep-stamped like other S/el casebacks I’ve handled.

- Clasp code/date didn’t seem to line up with the apparent era of the case (bracelet felt later than the head).

- The S-link bracelet looked slightly different in profile from a standard period S/el-more like the modern Senna reissue S-links I’ve tried on the Carrera/Formula 1 special editions from 2015+.

This got me thinking:
- Did TAG Heuer ever supply service casebacks with Senna branding for S/el models in certain markets (Brazil? Italy?) after his passing or for charity tie-ins?

- Were ADs swapping Senna backs onto unsold stock as promo pieces in the early/mid-90s?

- Is the modern Senna S-link (from Carrera/Formula 1 Senna editions) actually a quiet reissue of the old S/el bracelet geometry, and could those bracelets be retrofitted onto vintage S/el cases? If yes, that could explain odd hybrids popping up.

- Are there tell-tale differences between genuine period Senna engravings and later laser jobs (depth, font weight, curvature across the caseback, helmet detail, finishing halos)?

- Did any legit Senna S/el or 6000 series pieces come without dial branding-i.e., caseback-only Senna editions that never made the catalog?

Would love to crowdsource a mini-registry to separate legit Senna-linked pieces from service-part mashups:
- Known references and markets for true Senna editions from the 90s vs. the modern (2015+) runs.

- Serial ranges you’ve seen on confirmed originals.

- Clasp/end-link codes and bracelet quirks across generations.

- Caseback engraving types (stamped vs laser), and any regional warranty cards/hangtags with Senna/Foundation markings.

- Tachymeter variations on modern Senna Carreras (400 vs 240 scales, red Pantone differences) tied to specific references.

If you’ve got one of these-or dealer docs from the era-could you share caseback and clasp codes and a quick description of the dial/bracelet? Trying to figure out if I found a stealth Senna S/el variant, a period AD special, or just a very convincing parts cocktail.
